Add and import export cables

Use export cables to connect an offshore substation to a cable landing point.

You can add export cables manually or import multiple export cables from a spreadsheet.

Before you start

Make sure the substation used by the export cable already exists in the case.

When importing export cables, the substation name in the spreadsheet must match the existing substation name in the case.

Cable length is entered in metres.

Add an export cable manually

When adding an export cable manually, provide:

• Cable name
• Substation
• Cable landing point latitude
• Cable landing point longitude
• Cable length, if known

You may also be able to provide additional information such as completion date or power capacity, depending on the case setup.

If no cable length is provided, the distance between the substation and cable landing point is calculated automatically.

Import export cables

When importing export cables, you can map spreadsheet columns to the following fields.

Example

Substation

The Substation field should contain the name of an existing substation in the case.

For example: OSS-01

The imported value must match the substation name used in the case.

Cable landing point

The cable landing point is defined by:

• latitude
• longitude

Both values are required.

Coordinates should be supplied in decimal degrees.

Example:

• Latitude: 55.73421
• Longitude: 6.84210

Cable names

If an Identifier is provided, the imported cable is named using that identifier.

If no Identifier is provided, a cable name is generated automatically.

Using unique identifiers is recommended, especially when importing multiple export cables.

Cable distance

Cable distance is entered in metres.

For example:

• 5000 = 5 km
• 42500 = 42.5 km
• 100000 = 100 km

If cable distance is left blank, the system calculates the straight-line distance between the substation and the cable landing point.

Completion date

Completion date is optional.

Only map this field when the information is relevant to the case.

Before importing

Check that:

• The referenced substation already exists in the case.
• The substation name in the spreadsheet matches the name in the case.
• Both landing-point coordinates are provided.
• Latitude and longitude values are numeric.
• The coordinates use decimal degrees.
• Cable distance is in metres.
• Cable identifiers are unique where possible.

Common import problems

The substation cannot be found

Check that the value in the Substation column exactly matches an existing substation name in the case.

Landing point coordinates are missing

Both latitude and longitude are required.

Providing only one coordinate is not sufficient.

Cable length looks incorrect

Check that Cable distance is supplied in metres.

For example, enter 42000 for a 42 km export cable.

The landing point appears in the wrong location

Check that:

• latitude and longitude have not been reversed
• both values use decimal degrees
• the correct coordinate reference has been used when preparing the data
