Assets
Assets
Assets are any kind of structure you want to build as part of your construction project. Shoreline offers the following assets:
- Wind turbines
- Substations
- Inter-array cables
- Monopiles
- Transition pieces
- Foundations (monopile and transition pieces)
- Piles
- Jackets
- Foundations (pile and jacket)
- Export cables
Each asset has a set of input data that you can use to customize it to your requirements. You will find information on that input data in this section of the documentation.
Wind turbines and substations also feature tasks, which let you model asset workflows, and scheduled and corrective maintenance (O&M only). You will also find details on these two features in this sections.
Input data
This page covers all the available input data for assets, describing their use and limitations. You can set these parameters when adding or editing assets in your input library or in a case. Some inputs are only available in Construction or O&M cases. This is noted in the relevant places.
Members
The Members tab displays the individual instances of an asset included in the case. Each member can have its own location and asset-specific settings.
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | The name of the individual asset instance, for example Wind turbine 1. Click the name or use the edit icon to update settings for that specific instance. |
| Latitude | The latitude of the asset instance in decimal degrees. Together with longitude, this defines the asset's location within the case. |
| Longitude | The longitude of the asset instance in decimal degrees. Together with latitude, this defines the asset's location within the case. |
|
Operational start year (O&M only) |
The year from which the asset is considered operational. This allows individual asset instances to enter operation in different years. |
|
Priority (O&M only) |
Defines the priority of the individual asset. Asset priority can be used by simulation strategies that prioritize work based on the Highest asset priority. |
|
Access points [°] (O&M only) |
Defines the direction, in degrees, from which the asset can be accessed. Different access directions can be assigned to individual asset instances. |
You can edit individual members using the edit icon on the right-hand side of the table.
Use + Add instances to add additional members to the asset.
Some assets also provide a Bulk edit option, allowing the member inputs for multiple asset instances to be updated at once.
You can also use Download layout to export the current member layout, or Import from Youwind where that option is available.
Parameters
These general parameters control high-level aspects of the asset. Rated power and Nacelle height are only relevant to WTGs, and thus only required on these assets.
| Parameter | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Rated power | x | Maximum power the WTG can produce. |
| Nacelle height | x | Height of the installed nacelle or hub. Used to calculate the local wind speed for any specified restrictions when working on the nacelle. |
| Maximum number of technicians in asset | Number of technicians who can enter the asset at any one time. Used for scheduled and corrective maintenance tasks. Leave this empty or enter 0 to allow an unlimited number of technicians to work inside the asset simultaneously. |
|
| Maximum number of ongoing work orders | Number of simultaneous tasks that technicians can carry out on the asset. | |
| Remarks | Optional comments related to the asset. |
Tasks
Model the transportation, installation, commissioning, and other stages of assets using tasks and dependencies. Our Task dependency modelling page provides details on how to configure this part of your asset.
Weather criteria
Weather criteria determine weather-based operational limits on assets. This input is available on WTGs and substations.
| Parameter | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Significant wave height operational criteria | Maximum wave height at which the asset can operate. Above this wave height, the asset will shut down for safety reasons. Create a matrix for more detailed criteria. See the weather matrix page to learn more. Note: In the case of WTGs, this input is only necessary for floating WTGs. |
Limitations
Only in O&M.
Create weather-based restrictions for scheduled and corrective maintenance tasks. Add a Wind speed reference height to set the height at which the weather limitation applies.
Limitations created here will be available to select in the Limitations section of all scheduled and corrective maintenance tasks.
Power curve
Only applicable to WTG assets.
The power curve is used alongside the weather data applied to the asset in the Weather tab to simulate the WTG’s energy output. Weather data is taken from the weather file at the reference height that is closest to the nacelle height and extrapolated to match the nacelle height using the wind profile.
You can import a custom power curve using a CSV file. See the How to create CSV files for import page for details on how to format your file.
Scheduled and corrective maintenance
Only in O&M.
See the scheduled and corrective maintenance page for more details.
Weather
Select the weather data for use in your simulation. Import custom weather data or use ERA5 data provided by Shoreline. See our How to add weather files to a case page for further information.
Power law exponent for wind profile
The power law exponent is the input for the wind profile used to extrapolate wind speeds at various reference heights, such as the nacelle height.
By default, the value is 0.11, which is typical for offshore conditions. You can apply the same value across all assets by clicking Apply everywhere.
Applying the same power law exponent everywhere only affects existing assets and will not affect assets added to the case subsequently.
