Cable import data reference

Use this reference when preparing cable data for import.

General rules

  • One row represents one cable.
  • Cable distances are entered in metres.
  • Coordinates should use decimal degrees.
  • Referenced assets must already exist in the case.
  • Asset and substation names should match the names used in the case.
  • Use unique identifiers where possible.
  • If a coordinate endpoint is used, provide both latitude and longitude.

Inter-array cables

Available import fields

Field Required Example Notes
Identifier Optional IAC-001 Recommended for easier identification.
Wind farm equipment A Conditional WTG-01 Existing asset at cable end A.
Wind farm equipment B Conditional WTG-02 Existing asset at cable end B.
Cable A latitude Conditional 55.81234 Used when end A is defined by coordinates.
Cable A longitude Conditional 6.12345 Used with Cable A latitude.
Cable B latitude Conditional 55.81640 Used when end B is defined by coordinates.
Cable B longitude Conditional 6.13760 Used with Cable B latitude.
Cable distance Optional 1250 Cable length in metres.
Completion date Optional 2026-06-15 Include only when relevant.

Valid endpoint combinations

Asset to asset -- provide:

  • Wind farm equipment A
  • Wind farm equipment B

Asset to coordinates -- provide:

  • Wind farm equipment A
  • Cable B latitude
  • Cable B longitude

Or:

  • Cable A latitude
  • Cable A longitude
  • Wind farm equipment B

Coordinates to coordinates -- provide:

  • Cable A latitude
  • Cable A longitude
  • Cable B latitude
  • Cable B longitude

Example

Identifier Wind farm equipment A Wind farm equipment B Cable A latitude Cable A longitude Cable B latitude Cable B longitude Cable distance
IAC-001 WTG-01 WTG-02         850
IAC-002 WTG-02       55.81230 6.12540 1100
IAC-003     55.80120 6.10110 55.80920 6.11830 1450

Export cables

Available import fields

Field Required Example Notes
Identifier Optional EXP-001 Recommended for easier identification.
Substation Required OSS-01 Must match an existing substation.
Latitude cable landing point Required 55.73421 Landing-point latitude.
Longitude cable landing point Required 6.84210 Landing-point longitude.
Cable distance Optional 42500 Cable length in metres.
Completion date Optional 2026-08-01 Include only when relevant.

Example

Identifier Substation Latitude cable landing point Longitude cable landing point Cable distance
EXP-001 OSS-01 55.73421 6.84210 42500
EXP-002 OSS-02 55.69840 6.50120 38600

Cable distance

Cable distance is always entered in metres.

Desired cable length Enter
850 m 850
1.5 km 1500
12 km 12000
42.5 km 42500

If a cable distance is not provided, it can be calculated automatically from the available endpoint locations.

Coordinate format

Use decimal degrees.

Correct:

  • 55.73421
  • 6.84210

Avoid including:

  • degree symbols
  • cardinal-direction letters
  • coordinate labels inside the cell

For example, use 55.73421 rather than 55.73421° N.

Pre-import checklist

Before importing, confirm that:

  • each row represents one cable
  • referenced assets exist
  • asset names match the case
  • each cable has enough information to determine both endpoints
  • latitude and longitude are numeric
  • coordinate pairs are complete
  • cable distance uses metres
  • identifiers are unique where possible
  • blank optional fields are left empty rather than filled with placeholder text

Troubleshooting

Referenced asset not found

Check spelling, spaces, and naming. The spreadsheet value should match the existing asset name.

Cable is missing after import

Check that both endpoints have valid locations.

For an inter-array cable, each endpoint needs either:

  • an existing asset, or
  • both latitude and longitude.

Invalid landing point

For an export cable, both landing-point latitude and longitude are required.

Cable is much longer or shorter than expected

Check the unit used for Cable distance. The value must be in metres.

Coordinates appear in the wrong place

Check whether latitude and longitude were accidentally reversed.
