Classify work orders with secondary types

Add a second level of classification to your work orders. A Secondary type sits alongside the primary work order type, so you can categorise work in two independent ways, then filter and group by it across the platform.

Before you start

  • Secondary types are optional. A work order does not have to have one.
  • You configure the list of available secondary types in account settings.

Set up secondary types

  1. Go to Account settings > Work orders > Work order secondary types.
  2. Click Add to create a type, or New secondary type.
  3. Enter a name and save.

Delete a secondary type

  1. In Work order secondary types, choose the type to remove.
  2. Confirm in the Delete secondary type '[name]'? dialog.

Note: A secondary type cannot be deleted while it is in use: "Cannot delete '[name]' because work orders or work order plans are using it." Reassign or clear the type on those work orders first.

Assign a secondary type to a work order

  1. Open the work order.
  2. In the Secondary type field, choose a value from Select secondary type.
  3. Save.

The secondary type can also be set when importing work orders, using the Secondary type column.

Filter and group by secondary type

In work order lists: use the Secondary type filter (Select secondary type) to narrow the list.

In the Work Order Progress dashboard:

  • Filter by Secondary type.
  • Group the board by Secondary type from the toolbar.
