Filter personnel by skill group

The Skill groups filter narrows a personnel list to people who hold one or more selected competencies. You can choose whether a person must have all of the selected skills, or at least one.

Note: The competencies you select here were previously called "skill groups", and the filter control is still labelled Skill groups. From v2.8.0 the concept itself is called a Competency elsewhere in the app, and Skill groups is also a separate way to tag individual skills — so the options in this filter are your competencies.

Where to find it

The Skill groups filter is available wherever a personnel list appears:

  • Personnel list
  • Personnel and Teams overview
  • Personnel calendar
  • CV Configuration modal

Apply a filter

  1. Open the personnel list (or any page that supports the filter).
  2. Open the Skill groups filter and choose one or more entries from the Select skill groups dropdown.
  3. The filter expands to show two match-mode options:
    • Meet at least 1 skill in the competency — a person matches if they have any one of the selected skills.
    • Must meet all skills in the competency — a person matches only if they have every selected skill.
  4. Select the match mode that fits what you are looking for.

The list updates immediately when you change either the selection or the match mode.

Note: The match-mode toggle only appears after you have selected at least one entry. It is hidden when nothing is chosen.

Default behaviour

The filter starts in Meet at least 1 skill in the competency mode. This is the most permissive match, so you will typically see more people in the result. Switch to Must meet all skills in the competency when you need someone who is qualified for every selected skill — for example, when filling a role that combines several competencies.

How skills are evaluated

Shoreline only counts skills that are valid today. Specifically:

  • Expired skills are excluded — a certificate whose end date is in the past does not count as a match.
  • Pending skills are excluded — a certificate without an end date does not count as a match.

This means the filter always reflects who is actually qualified right now, not who has ever held the skill.

Examples

Find a crane operator with a confined-space ticket Open the Skill groups filter, select Crane operator and Confined space, and switch to Must meet all skills in the competency. Only personnel holding valid certificates for both skills are returned.

See who is available for a job that needs any electrical qualification Open the Skill groups filter, select all the relevant electrical competencies, and leave the toggle on Meet at least 1 skill in the competency. Anyone holding at least one of the selected certificates is returned.
