Install Shoreline as an app on your device

Shoreline Platform is a Progressive Web App (PWA). You can install it on a phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop and launch it like a native application — with its own icon, full-screen window, and offline-aware behavior.

Before you start

• Shoreline must be accessed over HTTPS. PWAs cannot be installed over plain HTTP.
• Installation is supported on Android, Windows, macOS, and Linux using a Chromium-based browser (Chrome 73+ or Edge 79+).
• On iPhone and iPad, install through Safari using the share menu. Automatic installation prompts are not supported on iOS; you must add the app to your home screen manually. (iOS 16.4 and later support PWA installation, but the prompt must be triggered manually through Safari.)

Install Shoreline on Android, Windows, macOS, or Linux

Shoreline will offer to install itself automatically the first time you open it on a supported device. You can also install at any time from the login page.

1. Open the Shoreline Platform in Chrome or Edge.
2. When the Install this app for a better experience prompt appears, click Install.
3. Confirm the installation in your browser's dialog.
4. Shoreline opens in its own window with the Shoreline icon on your desktop or home screen.

Install from the login page

If you dismissed the prompt or never saw it, you can install from the login page:

1. Open the Shoreline Platform login page.
2. Click the Install this app for a better experience button below the sign-in form.
3. Confirm the installation in your browser's dialog.

Note: If you click Later to dismiss the install prompt, it will not appear again for two weeks. You can still install at any time from the login page button.

Install Shoreline on iPhone or iPad

iOS does not support automatic installation, so Shoreline must be added to the home screen manually using Safari.

1. Open the Shoreline Platform in Safari.
2. Tap the Share icon (the box with an arrow pointing up). On iPhone it appears at the bottom of the screen; on iPad it appears in the top toolbar.
3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. Confirm the name and tap Add.
5. The Shoreline icon now appears on your home screen and launches the app in its own window.

Tip: Shoreline will prompt you with these instructions automatically the first time you open it in Safari. Tap Got it to dismiss the prompt — it will not reappear for two weeks.

Offline behaviour

When Shoreline is installed as a PWA, the app caches its core assets so subsequent launches are faster. If you launch the installed app without a network connection, an offline fallback screen is displayed:

You're offline It looks like you've lost your internet connection. Check your network and try again.

Click Try again when you have reconnected to reload the app.

Tip: You do not need to reinstall the app after going offline. Simply reconnect to your network and tap or click Try again to resume where you left off.

Note: Going offline only affects the app shell — the core interface and navigation. Live data (work orders, defects, and checklists) requires an active network connection.

Updates

When a new version of Shoreline is available, an update prompt appears inside the installed app:

A new version is available.

Click Update now to refresh immediately, or click Dismiss to keep working and update later. The prompt is non-blocking, so you can finish what you're doing before applying the update.

These features remain fully available when using a desktop browser or when Shoreline is installed as a PWA on a desktop device.
