How to run a simulation
Once you have configured your case by adding bases, logistics, and personnel, and defining your strategy, you’re ready to run a simulation.
- Open a Shoreline simulation case.
- Click on the Simulate tab.
- Choose your simulation settings.
- Click Run simulation.
Simulation settings
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Weather | How the weather data you have added to your case is used across simulation runs. |
| Start year | Note: O&M only. The year from which operations will begin in the simulation. |
| Start date | Note: Construction only. The date from which the construction campaign will begin in the simulation. This is the date on which the first task is carried out. |
| Years | Note: O&M only. How many years you want your O&M schedule to run. |
| Runs | How many simulations you want to run using the same settings. Simulation runs are run as a batch and used to calculate percentiles. See the How many simulation runs should I use? section below for more details. |
How many simulation runs should I use?
O&M
The complexity of the simulated events can affect the number of runs required. More complex cases (such as those with MCRs) may require more runs to achieve convergence.
If you are unsure how many runs you require, it is best to start with a moderate number (~50 runs) and increase the number gradually until you observe convergence.
Construction
You should run the same number of runs as you have overlapping years in the weather data.
