Saveable Field Mapping Templates for Imports
Saveable Field Mapping Templates for Imports
Field mapping templates save time during recurring imports. Instead of remapping columns every time you import a file, you can save your field mappings as a reusable template.

Where to find the feature
- Go to Import in the main navigation
- Select the import type you want to work with (for example, Assets, Personnel, Work Orders, Sites, or Inventory)
- The field mapping configuration section displays a Saveable Field Mapping Templates panel below the field mappings
The templates section includes:
- A dropdown menu showing all previously saved templates for this import type
- Buttons to load, delete, or save a new template
How to save a field mapping template
Once you have configured your field mappings to match your import file:
- Click Save as template
- Enter a name for the template (up to 100 characters)
- Click the confirmation button
The template saves your current field mapping configuration. You can now reuse it for future imports of the same type.
Note: Template names must be unique within each import type.
How to load a saved template
When you need to import a file with the same structure as before:
- Open the import type for which you created a template
- In the Saveable Field Mapping Templates section, select the template name from the dropdown
- Click Load
The system applies all saved field mappings from the template to the current import configuration. You can now proceed with your import without reconfiguring the fields.
How to delete a saved template
If you no longer need a template:
- In the Saveable Field Mapping Templates section, select the template from the dropdown
- Click Delete
- Confirm the deletion when prompted
The template is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.
What gets saved in a template
Templates store your custom field mapping rules, including:
- Field name mappings — which columns in your import file map to system fields
- Mapping types — whether fields use one-to-one, one-to-multiple, fixed value, or concatenation mapping
- Fixed values — any static values you assigned to fields
- Skip options — fields you marked to be skipped during import (where applicable)
System metadata such as mandatory field indicators are managed separately and are not included in the template.
Permissions and requirements
To access the import feature and save templates, you must have the appropriate import permission for your organization (for example, permission to import assets, personnel, or work orders). Contact your system administrator if you cannot see the import section or if specific import types are unavailable.
Limitations
- One template per name per import type — Template names must be unique within each import type. You cannot save two templates with the same name for the same import type.
- Import type specific — A template saved for asset imports cannot be used for personnel imports. Each import type has its own set of templates.
- Template scope — Templates are shared at the company level. All team members at your organization can view and use templates created by anyone in the company.
Troubleshooting
I cannot see the template section
Make sure you have completed the initial field mapping configuration for the import type. The templates section only appears after the import configuration loads.
I see an error saying "Template with name already exists"
Template names must be unique within each import type. Try using a different name, such as adding a date or identifier to distinguish it (for example, "Asset Mappings – Q1 2025").
My template is not loading or loading incomplete settings
Try refreshing the page and reloading the template. If the issue persists, contact your system administrator.
