Secondary base support for helicopters
Overview
Helicopters can now be assigned a Secondary base in addition to their Primary base. When a secondary base — typically an offshore base or an SOV — is set, the helicopter can pick up and drop off technicians there instead of always returning to its primary base. You can also choose whether the helicopter idles at its primary or secondary base while waiting between jobs.
Prerequisites
- A helicopter must already be configured in the case with a Primary base.
- To use this feature, an offshore base or SOV must exist in the case to assign as the Secondary base.
Where to Find It
Vessels → helicopter availability entry / instance configuration → Primary base and Secondary base fields.
How to Use It
- Open the helicopter's availability entry or instance configuration.
- Set the Secondary base field to the offshore base or SOV you want the helicopter to use.
- Set Idle at secondary location if you want the helicopter to wait at the secondary base between jobs, instead of returning to its primary base.
- Run the case.
Note: Technicians who are home-based at the secondary location are automatically picked up and dropped off there — you don't need to configure this separately.
Tip: If you leave Secondary base unset, the helicopter behaves exactly as before and only uses its primary base.
Limitations
- This is an opt-in feature. If no secondary base is configured, results are unchanged from previous behaviour.
- Only one secondary base can be assigned per helicopter.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will this change the results of my existing cases? No. If you don't set a Secondary base, the helicopter continues to use only its primary base, exactly as before.
Can I use this with any vessel type, or only helicopters? This release adds secondary-base support for helicopters. Other vessel types are not affected.
What's the difference between a secondary base and just adding another primary base? A helicopter still has one primary base, but can now also pick up and drop off technicians at a secondary base, and can be set to idle there between jobs — without needing a second, separate helicopter configuration.
