Visualization playback

Welcome to the Visualization Playback feature! This powerful tool allows you to watch and analyze  simulations in real-time on an interactive map. Whether you're reviewing construction activities or operational scenarios, this guide will help you understand how to use all the available features.

What is Visualization Playback?

Visualization playback is an interactive map-based tool that displays simulation results from your projects. It shows:

  • logistics agent movements — Watch installation logistics agents, support logistics agents, and other marine traffic navigate between locations

  • Infrastructure deployment — See assets like wind turbines, substations, and other structures being installed over time

  • Operational activities — Monitor maintenance operations and ongoing activities in operational mode

  • Historical timeline — Replay any moment of your simulation from start to finish

Controlling the Visualization

Playback Controls

Located at the bottom of the map, the control panel provides:

Progress Bar

  • Dark blue section: Shows your current playback position

  • Light blue section: Indicates buffered data ready for playback

  • Click to seek: Click anywhere on the progress bar to jump to that point in the simulation

Timescale Adjustment
Control the speed of playback to match your analysis needs:

  • Adjust the timescale slider to speed up or slow down the visualization

  • The relative timescale determines how many simulation seconds pass per real-world second

Seeking
Jump to any point in your simulation:

  1. Click anywhere on the progress bar

  2. The visualization will:

    • Pause current playback

    • Reset all positions

    • Load data from your selected point

    • Instantly draw all previous events

    • Resume playback from the new position

Map Navigation

Use standard Google Maps controls to navigate:

  • Pan: Click and drag to move around the map

  • Zoom: Use mouse wheel, pinch gesture, or zoom controls

  • Dynamic icon scaling: Asset and logistics agent icons automatically resize based on zoom level for optimal visibility

  • Auto-fit: The map automatically adjusts at startup to show all infrastructure

Time Display

Located in the top-right corner, the time display shows:

  • Current simulation date and time

  • Updates continuously as the visualization progresses

  • Helps correlate visual events with simulation timestamps

Understanding the Map View

Legend (Top-Left Corner)

The interactive legend is your guide to everything on the map.

logistics agents Section

  • Color indicator: A horizontal colored line showing the logistics agent's path color

  • logistics agent icon: Visual representation of the logistics agent type

  • logistics agent name: Descriptive title for each logistics agent

  • All logistics agents are grouped under “logistics agents (Dynamic)”

Assets Section

  • Grouped by category: Wind turbines, substations, cables, ports, etc.

  • Category headers: Bold, uppercase labels (e.g., WIND TURBINES, SUBSTATIONS)

  • Asset icons: Distinct icons for each asset type

  • Asset names: Individual titles for each infrastructure element

  • Interactive: Click any asset in the legend to center the map on it and zoom in

Infrastructure Assets

In Construction Mode

  • Not yet installed: Assets appear faded (30% opacity) as shadows of their future positions

  • During installation: Assets brighten as logistics agents work on them

  • Installed: Assets appear at full brightness with their normal icon

  • Cables: Drawn as lines connecting related infrastructure

In Operations Mode

  • All assets visible: Infrastructure appears at full opacity from the start

  • Operational status: Assets display current operational state

  • Hidden duplicates: Foundations beneath installed turbines are automatically hidden

Logistics agents & Movement

Logistics agent Markers

  • Unique icons: Different logistics agent types (installation logistics agents, support logistics agents, etc.) have distinct icons

  • Smooth movement: logistics agents move fluidly between positions with interpolated paths

  • Color-coded: Each logistics agent has a unique color for easy tracking

Logistics agent Paths

  • Dashed trail lines: Show the recent path of each logistics agent

  • Color-matched: Path color matches the logistics agent’s assigned color

  • Limited length: Shows last 50 position points to avoid clutter

  • Fades out: Older sections of paths gradually disappear

Cables & Connections

When cables are installed:

  • Polyline rendering: Cables appear as colored lines on the map

  • Connection visualization: Links between turbines, substations, and other infrastructure

  • Color-coded: Different cable types may have different colors

Interactive Features

Hover Effects

  • Legend items highlight when you hover over them

  • Provides visual feedback for clickable elements

Click to Center

  • Click any asset in the legend

  • Map automatically pans to that asset

  • Zooms to level 12 for detailed view

What You Can See & Learn

Construction Visualization

Perfect for analyzing installation logistics:

  • logistics agent routing: How efficiently are logistics agents moving between tasks?

  • Installation sequence: What order are assets being installed?

  • Time to install: How long does each installation take?

  • Resource utilization: Are logistics agents being used optimally?

  • Weather delays: Identify periods of inactivity

  • Progress tracking: Visualize construction progress over time

Operations Visualization

Analyze ongoing maintenance and operations:

  • Maintenance activities: Track service logistics agent movements

  • Failure response: See how quickly logistics agents respond to issues

  • Operational patterns: Identify routine maintenance schedules

  • Resource allocation: Understand how operational resources are deployed

Spatial Analysis

The map view helps you understand:

  • Distance relationships: See actual distances between assets

  • Geographic constraints: Understand how terrain and location affect operations

  • Route optimization: Analyze logistics agent path efficiency

  • Infrastructure layout: Review asset positioning and configuration

Tips for Effective Use

  1. Start with overview: Begin zoomed out to understand the full project scope

  2. Use legend actively: Click assets to jump to areas of interest

  3. Adjust timescale: Slow down during complex events, speed up during transit

  4. Seek to key moments: Use the progress bar to jump to specific phases

  5. Watch logistics agents' paths: The colored trails help track agent behavior over time

  6. Note the time display: Correlate visual events with simulation timestamps

  7. Zoom dynamically: Icons scale with zoom level, so zoom in for detail or out for overview

Troubleshooting

Visualization not loading?

  • Check your internet connection

  • Ensure the simulation run completed successfully

  • Verify you have valid run data available

Playback is choppy?

  • Reduce your browser zoom level

  • Close other browser tabs to free up memory

  • Try reducing the timescale slightly

Can’t see certain assets?

  • Zoom in — some small assets may not be visible when zoomed out

  • Check the legend to see if the asset is listed

  • In operations mode, foundations beneath turbines are intentionally hidden

Seeking is slow?

  • This is normal for positions far from your current location

  • The system must fetch and render historical data

  • Wait for the progress bar to update
