Working with Assets

Assets are the physical units your organisation manages on a site — such as wind turbines, foundations, cables, or any other field asset. This article explains how to find the asset list, understand the data stored on an asset, and use all available actions.

Prerequisites

Before working with assets, make sure the following are in place:

Requirement Why it matters
At least one Site exists in the system Assets must be assigned to a site
At least one Asset Type is configured in Settings Assets require a type
Your user role includes the relevant asset permissions Determines which actions you can perform

Where to find the Asset List

  1. In the left navigation menu, go to Sites.

  2. Select the relevant site, then open the Assets tab.

The asset list is also accessible directly from the top-level Assets section, which shows assets across all sites.

The Asset List

The asset list is a paginated table showing all assets you have access to. Each row represents one asset.

Columns

The following columns are available. Some are visible by default; others can be toggled on or off using the Customise columns button.

Column Default Description
Name The display name of the asset. A warning icon appears if a restriction is active.
Serial Number The asset's serial number
Type The asset type (e.g. Wind Turbine, Foundation)
Site The site the asset belongs to
External Asset ID The ID used to identify this asset in external systems
Loadout ID The external loadout identifier
String ID An optional string identifier

To change which columns are displayed, click the Customise columns button at the top right of the list. Your selection is saved per user.

Filtering the list

Use the filter bar above the table to narrow down results. You can filter by:

  • Asset Type – select one or more asset types

  • Site – select one or more sites

  • Work Package – filter by associated work package

You can also type in the search field to search by asset name.

Filters can be combined. To clear all active filters, click Reset filters.

Sorting

Click any column header to sort the list by that column. Click again to reverse the sort direction.

Pagination

The list is paginated (20 assets per page by default). Use the page controls at the bottom of the table to navigate between pages.

Selecting assets (bulk actions)

Check the checkbox on one or more rows to select assets. A message bar appears at the top of the list showing how many assets are selected, with options to select all matching assets or deselect all.

Once assets are selected, the Download button in the toolbar becomes active and allows you to export the selected assets to CSV.

Adding a New Asset

  1. From the Asset List page, click + Add New in the top-right toolbar.

  2. The Add Asset panel opens. Fill in the required fields (marked with *).

  3. Click Save to create the asset.

Note: You need the Create Asset permission to see the Add New button.

Editing an Asset

To open an existing asset, either:

  • Double-click on the row in the list, or

  • Click the pencil (edit) icon at the end of the row.

The asset panel opens with the current data pre-filled across multiple tabs.

Note: You need the Update Asset permission to see the edit icon and save changes.

Asset Data — General Tab

The General tab contains the core information about the asset. It is organised into collapsible sections.

Info

Field Required Description
Site The site this asset belongs to. Changing the site on an existing asset may affect linked work orders — a warning is shown if open work orders exist.
Name The asset's display name
Asset Type The type of asset (configured in Settings > Asset Types)
Serial Number   The physical serial number
External Asset ID   The ID used in external systems (e.g. SCADA, ERP). Must be unique.
String ID   An optional string/circuit identifier
Work Package(s)   Associates the asset with one or more work packages for planning purposes
Loadout ID   Links the asset to a loadout for offshore logistics. Either an active registered loadout is shown (read-only), or a new loadout draft ID can be entered.

Location

The location section allows you to record the geographical position of the asset.

  • Enter the Latitude and Longitude manually, or

  • The map updates in real time as coordinates are entered.

For cable-type assets, two position points (start and end) can be defined and linked to other assets.

Qualifications & Skill Groups

This section defines which skills and skill groups are required for personnel to work on this asset. These requirements are used during scheduling and work order planning to validate that assigned workers hold the correct qualifications.

  • Skills: Search and add individual skills. Remove a skill by clicking the × icon next to it.

  • Skill Groups: Search and add skill groups. Remove a skill group by clicking the × icon next to it.

Asset Status / Milestones

This section displays the milestone statuses configured for the asset's site. For each status you can:

  • Mark it as Complete using the checkbox

  • Record an Actual Date (when it was completed)

  • Set an Estimated Date (when it is expected to be completed)

Milestone columns are configured per site in the Milestone Dashboard settings.

Tip: Click Go to Dashboard to open the Milestones Dashboard directly from this panel.

Power Curve

The power curve defines the energy output profile for this asset, used in schedule planning calculations. There are three modes:

Mode Description
Inherit from Asset Type Uses the power curve defined on the asset type (default)
Asset-specific Use a custom power curve uploaded directly on this asset
None No power curve is applied to this asset

When the Asset-specific mode is selected, you can upload a new power curve CSV file using the Upload New button. The chart is displayed once data is available.

Files

The Files section (only visible on saved assets) allows you to attach documents to an asset.

  • Click Upload to attach a new file.

  • Download an existing file by clicking the download icon on the relevant row.

  • Delete a file by clicking the delete icon.

Supported file types include common document and image formats.

Asset Data — Sub-Assemblies Tab

This tab is only visible for saved assets and requires the Read Sub-Assemblies permission.

The Sub-Assemblies tab lists all sub-assemblies connected to this asset (e.g. nacelle, rotor, generator). From here you can:

  • View all sub-assemblies and their status

  • Add a new sub-assembly by clicking the + Add Sub-Assembly button

  • Edit an existing sub-assembly by clicking the edit icon

  • Delete a sub-assembly (with confirmation)

Each sub-assembly can itself contain components and be linked to work orders.

Asset Data — Components Tab

This tab is only visible for saved assets.

The Components tab shows all individual components registered directly on the asset (not on a sub-assembly). You can add, edit, and delete components from this view.

Asset Data — Equipment Tab

This tab is only visible for saved assets and requires the Read Equipment permission.

The Equipment tab shows the inventory location for tools and materials assigned to this asset. This uses the same inventory management interface as other parts of the system.

Asset Data — Work Orders Tab

This tab is only visible for saved assets and requires the Read Work Orders permission.

The Work Orders tab shows all work orders linked to this asset. You can:

  • Filter work orders by status and date range

  • Navigate between pages of results

  • Open a work order directly from this tab by clicking the edit icon or double-clicking the row

The columns shown include: Work Order ID, Name, Sub-Assembly, Component, Earliest Start Date, Latest Finish Date, and Priority.

Deleting an Asset

To delete an asset:

  1. Click the delete (trash) icon at the end of the asset row in the list.

  2. A confirmation dialog appears.

  3. Click Confirm to permanently delete the asset.

Note: You need the Delete Asset permission to see the delete icon.
⚠️ Deleting an asset is permanent and cannot be undone. Consider the impact on any linked work orders, sub-assemblies, or scheduling data before deleting.

Exporting Assets

You can export selected assets to a CSV file for use in external tools or reporting.

  1. In the asset list, check the checkbox on one or more assets.

  2. Click the Download button in the toolbar.

  3. The export is prepared in the background. You will receive a notification when it is ready to download.

The export includes fields such as asset name, external asset ID, site, asset type, loadout ID, work packages, position coordinates, and any custom fields configured for your organisation.

Note: At least one asset must be selected before the Download button becomes active.

Importing Assets

Assets can be imported in bulk via a CSV file. This is typically done by an administrator. Refer to the Import & Export guide for full instructions on configuring import mappings and uploading a file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I change the Loadout ID field?
If a loadout has already been registered and linked to the asset, the Loadout ID field is read-only. Contact your loadout administrator to make changes.

Why is there a warning icon next to an asset's name in the list?
A warning icon indicates that the asset has an active restriction. This may mean work orders cannot be planned against it, or a warning is shown when attempting to do so. See the Asset Restrictions article for more information.

Why does changing the Site on an asset show a warning message?
If the asset is linked to open work orders, changing its site will affect those work orders. The system warns you so you can review and update the affected work orders accordingly.

The power curve I uploaded doesn't appear — what should I check?
Make sure the power curve mode is set to Asset-specific (not Inherit from Asset Type or None). If the mode is correct but data is missing, re-upload the CSV file using the Upload New button.

Can I filter assets across multiple sites at once?
Yes. Use the Site filter in the filter bar and select multiple sites. The list will show assets from all selected sites.
